Shitala mata is a kind of goddess adi shakti . She gives assurance to the patients of fever. Shitala is also at times show with a shady woman called Raktavati. She is often respect with Oladevi, a further disease goddess.
There was a king of Hastinapur named Indralumna and her wife name was Pramila, who had great trust in performing religious ceremonies . Her son name Mahadharma and daughter name Shubhakaari who got married to prince Gunvan.
After one year of marriage, Gunvaan went to home of his in-laws to take his wife. Shubhakari with her female friends rise on a chariot and went to some pond for the puja ritual of Shitala mata.
Then an old woman came and proved them the way. After that the princess took bath in lake and completed puja of Shiatala mata. The old woman was herself Shitala mata and she got happy from the love of princess. She asked the princess to state any hope but the princess told that she will ask on any require.
After that princess got to know about the death of Brahmin due to snake bite. Then the princess asked Shitala mata to return the life of Brahmin and with the approval of Shitala mata, Brahmin got alive again.
Shitala Satam is celebrated in devotion to Godesses Sheetala Mata. It falls in the month of Sravana. Every married women performe puja of Shitala Mata is the main ritual. Married women do this puja after taking bath with cold water. Cold meal cooked on the previous day is eaten by devotee during this festival.
