Rajkot BRTS Launches Today 1st October Monday
The city of Rajkot is today getting a new Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) with launching of the 10-km long Blue corridor and two AC buses which will be free for the first three months. The corridor is located in the west part of the city through the 150 ft ring road connecting Madhapar chokdi on the Jamangar road to Gondal chokdi on the Gondal road. The corridor will host 11 buses in further stage.

The fully completed project in future will have two more corridors - green and red from Arvind Maniyar Nagar to Saurashtra University and Greenland Chowk to Saurashtra University respectively involving 157 buses in three colors.
Inauguration functions of the new service at 5.30 pm today at Mavdi chokdi on 150 ft ring road. The 10.7 km road involves expense of Rs 110 crore while a split fly over has been constructed at a cost of Rs 50 crore. The next step is construction of 9.14 km BRTS lane connecting Jamnagar road and greenland chokdi. 18 BRTS bus-stands are constructed at cost of Rs 4.60 crore on public private partnership mode. The bus-stands will be equipped with the passenger information system and real time vehicle tracking system. Euro-3 standard 34-seat buses have standing capacity of 16 passengers. Four new buses are to be added in next week; while 10 more will join the fleet by the end of October. Rajasthan based Matrshwari travels will operate the buses.
Rajkot thus becomes the second city in Gujarat to have BRTS after Ahmedabad. The city of Surat too is planning an ambitious BRTS project, construction of which is going on presently.
