History of the Lakhota Museum Jamnagar
History of Jamnagar states that the city was built by Jam Rawal in the year 1540. He belonged to one of the mainly respected Royal dynasties of Gujarat. It is later than Jam Rawal, that the city of Jamnagar gets its name. The previous name for the city was Nawagarh, which can be literally translated to mean "New City". The attractive Lakota Palace Museum was once home to the Maharaja of Nawanagar. It was built in the form of a fort with semi-circular bastions, turrets and a pavilion that has guardrooms displaying swords, musket loops and powder flasks.

Information about Lakhota Lake Museum, The collection includes artifacts spanning from 9th to 18th century, pottery from medieval villages nearby and the skeleton of a whale. The very initial thing you see on entry, however, before the historical and archaeological information, is the guardroom with muskets, swords and powder flasks, reminding you of the structure’s new purpose and proving the martial readiness of the state at the time. The walls of the museum are also covered in frescoes depicting various battles fought by the Jadeja Rajputs.

Located close to the Lakhota Fort is the Koath Bastion, which is famous for being the arsenal, built by the Royal family of Jamnagar. One of the most interesting spot of the area is an old well, from which water can be drawn by blowing in to a small hole on the floor. |
