Vadodara or Baroda is known as Sanskari Nagari or cultured City of Western India and is one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the country.

Baroda and the people of the city are passionate and devoted to festivals like Mumbaikars.  Ganesh Visarjan and Ganesh Utsav are major festivals in the city. People from round the world visit Baroda for Ganesh Visarjan and Garba. Ganesh idols of Baroda are bigger and very colorful (they have talented Idol Makers from Fine Arts Faculty) than other cities in India hence the preparation for Ganesh Utsav and Ganesh Visarjan is done 4-5 months in advance.

This year 656 Ganesh idols at 2036 Ganesh Pandals at Sursagar Lake were immersed remaining were immersed in Mahi River,Gowra Lake, Sama Lake, Tarsali Lake,Mahadev Lake. The remaining Ganesh idols were immersed in Mahadev Lake, Tarsali Lake, Sama Lake, Gorwa Lake and Mahi River.  Pandals at Pratap Madga ni Pole, Marimata No Khancho, Kalupura, Tadfadiya, Shamalbechar Ni Pole, Dandiya Bazaar, M G Road and Navapura road arefrequented by people 24x7 during this festival of Ganesh Visarjan as the surrounding area and monuments are very brightly illuminated making the entire area very glittering and decorative.

Heavy rains this year in the city during Ganesh Visarjan had water logged in many parts of the city and hence saw less crowd during immersion. Since Baroda had three communal riots very recently Police Force had made special arrangement of additional security to avoid any un- precedential incidents in the city.  9 Companies of State Reserve Police (SRP), Rapid Action Force (RAF) Central Reserve Police (CRPF) along with 5000 policemen and 44 CCTV cameras were deployed at Sursagar Lake. Thanks to the rain God this year the Ganesh Visarjan procession passed off very safely and swiftly.
