P T Usha Lays Foundation for Synthetic Athletic Track at Race Course Ground in Rajkot
India's most successful runner P T Usha on Sunday 9th November 2014 laid the foundation stone for new developing synthetic athletic track at athletic ground at Race Course in Rajkot. Rajkot Municipal Corporation is developing this new synthetic athletic track.
P T Usha performed the ceremony of laying foundation in presence of health minister Nitin Patel and other officials of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). According to RMC officials, the municipal body is developing new sports infrastructures to groom and help youths to take up sports as career. "The new synthetic track will be developed at a cost of around Rs 7 Cr,'' C K Nandani, deputy municipal commissioner said.
Currently there is a track made up of soil but now new track will be made synthetically to provide more facilities to students, players and citizens. There will be 120 metre long steps will also be made for seating arrangement.
The new synthetic athletic track will have place for javelin throw, high jump, long jump and other grounds. Synthetic tennis court will be made in front of indoor stadium and beside football ground. There will be two tennis courts made with seating arrangement at both sides for viewers. RMC said that track will be ready in 6 months.
P T Usha is an Indian track and field athlete from the state of Kerala. P. T. Usha has been associated with Indian athletics since 1979. She is regarded as one of the greatest athletes India has ever produced and is often called the "queen of Indian track and field". She has won ‘Padma Shri’ in 1984 and Arjuna award. |
