The World Shows Support to India to Declare 21 June as International Day of Yoga
Around 130 countries show their support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for commemorating 21 June as International Yoga Day. The 130 countries have joined as co-sponsors to an India’s UN General Assembly resolution recognizing yoga’s benefits.

The draft resolution for an 'International Day of Yoga', known as the 'L Document,' was arranged by India and informal discussions were summoned last month by the Indian mission in the UN General Assembly where views on the topic were expressed by other delegations.
The draft resolution is expected for adoption in the UN General Assembly on 10th December. During his first speech in at the UN General Assembly on 27th September 2014, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed an International Yoga Day. He said, “It [yoga] is not about exercise, but to discover the sense of oneness with you, the world, and the nature.”

An awesome support for Modi's initiative is reflected in various key nations that have come on board to co-sponsor the resolution including the five permanent members of the Security Council France, UK, Russia, China and the United States. Several Asian, European and Latin American countries and nearly 60 per cent of African nations are also co-sponsors including Canada, Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Germany, Australia, Bangladesh, Myanmar, the UAE, Bhutan, Brazil, Mexico, Central African Republic, Colombia, Cuba, Finland, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Egypt, Japan, Kenya, Vietnam, New Zealand, South Korea, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Syria, Thailand and Nepal.
