Narendra Modi Invites Madhuri Dixit to Launch Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Campaign in Haryana
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign to save girl child and maintain male-female ratio in Haryana on 22 January 2015. Prime Minister Narendra Modi denounced the practice of female foeticide, saying such discrimination reflects “mental illness” and displays a mindset “worse than people in the 18th century”.

Parents need to deposit only Rs 1,000 at the time of her birth, followed by any amount in multiples of 100 thereafter, for the girl to get Rs 1, 50,000 when she is 18 years old.
Bollywood ‘Dhak-Dhak Girl’ Madhuri Dixit has been selected as a brand ambassador for ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.
I am glad Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme launched in the first year by Modi government, I have great hopes from it, said Madhuri and added that if girls are not born, who will you marry your daughters to? This leads to crime and persecution. Madhuri addresses Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign as brand ambassador.
A reward of Rs 1 crore will be given for the "innovative" village which attains a balanced sex ratio. Menka Gandhi said there were 70 villages in the state where no girl child had been born for years.
