Khambhalida Caves in Rajkot - Location of Khambhalida Buddhist Caves Gujarat
Khambhalida Caves are located near Gondal in Rajkot district of Gujarat state. Khambhalida Caves are a footprint of Buddhism in Gujrat and date back to 5 BC. The group has three caves containing chaitya and stupa.
The chaitya gate includes figures of Bodhisattva Padmapani and Vajrapani on right and left respectively. The caves were carved in 4th-5th century AD in the limestone rock. The access to the chaitya is covered by two edifices of the Bodhisatvas-Padmapani on the right and Vajrapani on the left. The caves have been scooped out of the Limestone rocks.
The caves are located in Gondal and are at a distance of eight kms from the main Railway station. The spot has three caves; the middle one has a chaitya, which is a ruined stupa.
How to Reach Khambhalida Caves ?
Khambhalida caves are situated in Rajkot district. Rajkot is well connected by road to most of the major cities of Gujarat and other neighboring states. Auto rickshaws are the best way into the town, though one might also choose to walk in. Private buses are also available for Ahmedabad, Baroda, Mumbai, Bhuj, Bhavnagar, Una, Mount Abu and Udaipur.
