Gangaur festival is the spring festival dedicated to the goddess of abundance, Gauri (Parvati). Gangaur festival is largely celebrated in Rajasthan state. Gangaur festival 2015 will be celebrated on 22 and 23 March 2015. Gangaur Festival is also known as Gauri Tritiya.

Gangaur is celebrated mainly in North Indian states especially in Rajasthan and some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Gujarat.During this period, unmarried men and women of the tribe choose their mates and escape - a custom which has overcome through the ages and is more or less expected during Gangaur.
Gangaur is a largely female-centric festival, in that most of the festivities and pujas are conducted by women. The fortnight leading up to Gangaur is marked by fasting, daily pujas of Gauri, and on the day of the festival itself, a bejewelled and beautifully clothed idol of the goddess is the centrepiece of an elaborate procession.
In this festival, if the women are unmarried she prays for being blessed with good husband, while married women pray for the health, love, long life and welfare of their husbands and happy married life. Gangaur is one of the most important festivals of Rajasthan.

Gangaur festival which is also known as Gauri Tritiya tithi for year 2015 begins on 22 March 2015 at 8:15 in the morning and ends on 23 March 2015 at 5:26 in the early morning. During the Tritiya tithi time duration, Gangaur Pooja Vidhi is performed by women.
The festival commences on the first day of Chaitra according to Purnimant School and continues for 18 days. In North India Purnimant based calendars start Chaitra month approximately fifteen days before Ugadi and Gudi Padwa.
