Bollywood actor Salman Khan is punished for 5 years of jail in hit and run case in 2002. Today, on 6th May 2015, Mumbai Court sentenced the bollywood actor for 5 years of jail for killing a man sleeping on pavement after night out drinking. ‘Dabbangg’ Salman Khan was present in the court with his family at the hearing time.

Salman Khan hit-and-run case is concluded after 13 years of verdict. The Mumbai session court judge said Khan was driving the car without a license and he was under the influence of alcohol. The court even made a reference to Alistair Pereira case.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan broken into tears after the court decision and his present family members were also teary eyes. Salman Khan’s lawyers will appeal in the High Court for bail but for now Salman Khan will be taken to Mumbai Arthur Road Jail. The prosecution argued that Salman Khan should get maximum sentence of 10 years in jail as permitted by law under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 304 part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), the court sent him to only five years in jail.

The defense lawyers also submitted Salman Khan’s balance sheet for donation which shows that the bollywood actor has disbursed Rs 42 Crores through his Organization Being Human. Salman Khan was charged with running over five persons sleeping on a pavement outside a bakery in Bandra in his Toyota Land Cruiser Car early on September 28, 2002, killing one and injuring four. The judgment was announced amid tight security around the court at Kalaghoda and only lawyers, media and court staff were allowed in the courtroom. A large number of media teams, lawyers and fans converged on the court complex to find out about the actor's fate.

Apart from Salman Khan’s fans, bollywood directors will also suffer as approx Rs 300 Crore are riding on his films. Salman Khan is having upcoming movie projects like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, Shhuddhi, Sultan and No Entry Mein Entry, etc. the hit-and-run cases and other charges are not new for bollywood. Sanjay Dutt is also in jail for Mumbai 1992 blast case.
