Maa Kali is the angry form of goddess Durga. Renowned people like Swami Vivekananda and Sri Ramkrishna Paramhansa were known to be great Kali devotees. The temple is known to have fulfilled the wishes of many and is therefore a very important pilgrimage centre for the Hindus. The ropeway, which is also called “Maa Mahakalika Udan Khatola” takes people in about 6 minutes from the base at Manchi to the temple. The stairs will make you struggle for more than an hour before you can reach the temple. Since the upper half of the building has a dargah, the place is equally revered for the Muslims as well.
