There are two Eids celebrated in Islam and both follow major acts of worship.  The first is Eid al-Fitr which follows Ramadan and the second is Eid al-Adha which follows the Hajj. During the Ramadan, Muslims are doing fast for the entire month from sunrise to sunset. Muslim’s are read an entire chapter of Qur’an in one day, so they can read whole holy book in one month. 

Eid al-Fitr was originated by the Islamic prophet Muhammad. It is observed on the first of the month of Shawwal at the end of the month of Ramadan, the Muslims undergo a time of fasting. Both the festivals named Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are events for performing thankfulness to God or Allah and remembering Him. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated for 3 days; Muslim people are wishing ‘Happy Eid’ or ‘Eid Mubarak’ to eachother. On the day of Eid after seeing the moon Muslims wishes their family, friends and neighbours and breaks their fasts together.

Usually, Muslim people are wake up early before the sunrise and do the prayer ‘Salatul Fair’, and do the fast on the day of Eid. Eid festival brings people closer as a community and to God by offering more worship such as taraweyah prayers. Eid al-Fitr celebrates the successful completion of Ramadan and the newly renewed spiritual cleansing and connection. People are offering and gifting various types of sweets, which is a common feature and special food in a Eid.

However, in the social sense people usually celebrate Eid ul-Fitr at the same time as Eid ul-Adha, visiting family and exchanging greetings such as "EID Mubarak". This exchange of greetings is a cultural tradition and not part of any religious obligation.
