Uttrayan, International Kite festival celebrates in Gujarat. This festival comes in 14th January, the day when winter begins to turn in to summer. The festival of uttrayan is also known as makarsakranti, is such a huge celebration that it has become a public holiday within a Gujarat state. Everyone take part in the celebration by flying kites.
On the day of Uttrayan, sky filled with thousand of colorful kites over most cities of the state. Kite flyers make a Kites (Patang) ties with a thread, and do the competition is to battle nearby kite-flyers to cut their strings and bring down their kites. The kites are attached to a firki, spool or you can say Charkhi. Firki is type of thread, coated with a mixture of glu and glass to be sharp as possible for cutting strings of other nearby kites.People were also used Firki stand during kite flying. There are varieties of firki stand available in the market according to necessity. You can see how smartly it designed as it independently stands on the ground.
The symbolism of this festival is to show the awakening of the Gods from their deep sleep. In Tamil Nadu, this day celebrate as a Pongal. In India’s history, kite flying tradition was created by kings, then Nawabs and from 1989 people around the world participated and showcased their innovative and different style kites. On the night, illuminated kites filled with lights and candles (Tukkals or fanas) are launched creating a sparkling in the dark sky. The scientific reason behind the kite festival is being on the tarrace and consuming the sun rays are the most fruitful to the human body. During the festival, people enjoyed with the special food items like Undhyu, Jalebi and chikis that serves to the crowd.
The International Kite Festival included activities like a light and sound show, workshops and training on kite making among others. International Kite Festival is organizing in Gujarat, India from 9th January to 15th January every year. The kite flying festival during Uttrayan is one of the most important events in Gujarat tourism calendar and to promote tourism every year. The festival is arranged in different cities of the state including Ahmedabad, Baroda, Kutch, Surat, Rajkot etc…. Indian people watch kites at the kite festival organized at white sand in the Rann of Kutch, a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert, in Dhordo, about 500 kilometers from Ahmadabad. The brand ambassador of Gujarat Tourism, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan also had a fun in the kite festival. He often saw in Rann of Kutch for the shooting of 'Khushboo Gujarat Ki' campaign for promotion of tourism. |
