Ajwa Dam is situated in the Vadodara District in Gujarat India. It is 10 miles away from the Vadodara. Ajwa Dam was constructed in the 20th century by the ruler of the Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III of Vadodara. Waghoriya city is the nearest to the Ajwa Dam.
The reason behind the construction of the Ajwa Dam was to provide water to the people of the Vadodara. At that time the population was only 10,000 but the ruler told to build the dam three times large. Ajwa Dam construction was started in the year 1885 and completed in the year 1890.
The height of the Ajwa Dam is 211 meters and catchment area is 195 Sq.kms. The length of dam is 5 km long. On 8 January 1885 the construction of the Sayaji Saroavr at Ajwa started and later it supplied the water to Vadodara. The celebration was done by the Lady Watson.
There are 64 gates of the Ajwa Dam. The engineer of the dam was Shri Jagnnath Sadashivji and also called Jagannath Sadashiva. River Vishwamitri is connected to Ajwa Dam. There is an Ajwa Garden near the dam. The water level increases in the monsoon because new water from other river comes.
