Khapra Kodiya Caves in Junagadh Gujarat - Khangar Mahal History Information and Photos

The Khapra Kodiya Cave is plainest cave in the group of caves. This cave is located in the Junagadh District Gujarat. It is also known as the Khangar Mahal. The caves are constructed in the 3rd- 4th Century A.D. This cave is the part of groups cave and from that it is one.

The engraved done in this caves is measured from east to west.  The central parts of the caves have less space. The design of the water tank is antique it is based on the L shape dwelling. The Khapra Kodia caves are used by the buddhist monk to stay during the time of monsoon. It is an ancient cave in the Junagadh built during the rule of the Ashoka.

After some years the water tanks are damage and water was coming outside so the monks left the Khapra Kodia Cave Junagadh and went to the Maharashtra. In Maharashtra they made new caves and lived there. According to the James there is literature written on the wall but handwriting are in curved shaped. This cave is the finest caves in all in which water tank was damage in ancient time.

The Indian Emperor of the Maurya Dynasty is the Samraat Chakravatin Ashoka Maurya. He was following Hindu religion but afterwards he follows the Buddhism because he feels peace. The Ashoka became the leader of the Buddhism and goes on a trip of 256 days to Buddhist place in Northern part of India.

The Ashoka Maurya was influenced by the Buddhism. In the Buddhism religion the people do not kill animal, live peaceful life without any stress, no fighting, respect for all and does meditation. As a king he provided all the basic facility for the people. Ashoka have to take the decision of the problems of the people so he thinks that solutions will get in the Buddhism. So he introduced the “Dhamma Mahamatta” who gave the speech on the Dhamma means dharma or religion. The messages of the Ashoka were written on rock walls and on the pillars. There person who could not read the message for that Ashoka has selected the soldiers for reading the message.
