Dr.SarvepalliRadhakrishnan's Birthday was on September 5 and hence since 1962 Teachers Day in India used to celebrate on “5th September”.

In many schools and colleges of Gujarat Cities like Ahmedabad Rajkot Baroda Surat Jamnagar Vadodara Gandhinagar GandhidhamVapiMehsana Jamnagar etc. and in Villages, students are used to celebrate 5th September as “Happy Teachers Day ”

On teachers’ day, teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance. In some schools, on this day senior students take the responsibility of teaching in order to show their appreciation for the teachers.

Students also give personal gifts to their favorite teachers to express their affection and gratitude. A life-long bond is developed among teachers and students. Teachers also feel special as their hard work and honesty is recognized on this day.
