Milk Man of India - Dr Verghese Kurien Passed Away 

Milk Man of India Dr Verghese Kurien passed away early on Sunday morning around 1:15 am in Nadiad Gujarat.

The Amul Man died due to age-related problems, Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) sources said.

He was 90 years old and is survived by wife Molly and daughter Nirmala Kurien.
 

He is a Mechanical Engineer from College of Engineering, Guindy (Presently Anna University Chennai). He also did his Master degree from Michigan University.

It was Lal Bahadur Shastri who appointed him as the founder chairman of National Diary Development board. His efforts made India become the largest milk producer in the World. The Indian government as a token of appreciation awarded him the second highest civilian honor 'The Padma Vibushan' in 1999.

"He strongly believed that by placing technology and professional management in the hands of the farmers, the living standards of millions of rural poor could be improved," Sodhi said Sunday in a tribute to Kurien's management skills.
