JhaverchandMeghani is a litterateur, Poet and Freedom Fighterfrom Gujarat. He was born in Chotila town in surendranagar, Gujarat. Mahatma Gandhi instinctively gave him the title of RaashtreeyaShaayar (National Poet).
ZaverchandMeghani’s parents are the Kalidas and DholimaMeghani. His father Kalidas worked in the Police force. His education was in Rajkot. He finished his matriculation in 1912 and completed his BA in 1917. He had two brothers Lalchand and Prabhashankar. He was married to Damyanti and after the death of his wife, he married to the woman named Chitradevi at the age of 36. He had 9 children namely Padmala, Murali, Indu, Mastan, Nanak, Vinod, Ashok, Mahendra and Jayant.
He always wore a white long coat, a dhoti reaching well down the knees and a turban. As a wellknown Gujarati poet, he wrote more than 100 books. His first book was a translation work of Rabindranath Tagore's ballad Kathaa-u-Kaahinee titled Kurbani Ni Katha, which was published in 1922.He was also one of the renowned freedom fighter as he was condemned for 2 years in jail for writing the book 'Sindhudo'. This book covering inspirational songs for the youth and strugglers of India, who participating for the Independence against British Raj. The legendry, ZaverchandMeghani was died on 9th March, 1947 in Botad, Gujarat.
Famous Gujarati Poet, Jhaverchandji contributed widely to Gujarati folk literatureand also the Editor of Phoolchhab Newspaper. Some of his famous poems are 'Veni Na Phool', ‘SaurashtraRasdhar’, ‘Ektaro’, ‘Killol’ etc… His well published Gujarati novels are 'Janmabhoomi', ‘Marela Na Rudhir’, ‘Satya Ni Shodhma’, ‘Gujaratno Jay’, ‘Niranjan’, ‘Sorathtaravahetapani’ etc….ZaverchandMeghani was also known as a Manbhatt poet due to his significant contribution to folk ballads. |
