The city of Dholera is one of the earliest cities in the area and is believed to have been a port city. The temple is exquisite with its carving and a sense of prevailing tranquillity. The temple consists of many idols of different gods and goddesses. Some of the idols are Shri Hanumanji, Ganapati Maharaj, Ghanshyam Maharaj, Dharm - Bhakti, Sheshashayi and Suryanarayan among others. The central altar of the temple is beautiful with the gods resting on a golden throne or Singhasan. The primary diety of the temple is Shri Madan Mohan Dev. The land for the temple was a gift from Darbar Punjabhai. He along with others requested Sri Swami Narayan to install the gods in the temple. As a request, Lord Swaminarayan could not refuse and thus after that, the entire idol was established in the temple and the new temple of Dholera came into existence. The exteriors as well as the interiors of the temple are very opulent and extremely rich with floral carvings.
It is said that Lord Swaminarayan along with few priests entered the premises of the temple to invoke the god with complete Vedic rituals and hymns to reside in the temple.
