Animals:
There are 523 lions in Gir, from that 106 is male, 201 is female and 213 is sub-adults. Leopards are more than 300 in the whole Jungle. Two different types of deer are there in Gir Jungle i.e. Sambar and Chowsingha. Chowsingha is only deer in the world which has four horns. Indian Fox, striped Hyena and Jackal are also there in the Gir Jungle.
Birds:
Gir gives home to many Birds in this forest. There are more than 200 types of birds, which lives in this forest.
Reptiles:
There are more than 40 types of reptiles and amphibians. Large numbers of Marsh Crocodile can see in Kamleshwar in Gir. Different type of Snake including Krait, King Cobra, Saw-scaled viper and the Russell’s viper are also there in Gir forest.
How to Reach Gir National Park?
Gir is near to Junagadh. You can reach there by road, by train or by air. Nearest railway station is Junagadh. Road distance is nearly 50kms from Somnath to Gir National Park, so you can reach here approximately in 1 hr from Somnath. |
