Sultan Ahmed Shah named the city ‘Ahmedabad’ on his name, the city of Ahmed. One day he saw rabbit chasing the dog on the Sabarmati River Bank. He was impressed by the bravery of that rabbit and decided to make Ahmedabad as his capital.
Ahmedabad is also important part in Independence movement of India as Mahatma Gandhi built two ashrams here, the Kochrab Ashram near Paldi (1915) and the Satyagraha Ashram now known as Sabarmati Ashram in 1917 on Sabarmati River Bank. Both the Ashrams were centre of nationalist activities. |
