Ahmedabad is a former capital of the state Gujarat. This history walk is arranged on 13 May, 2018 at Manek Burj, Ahmedabad.

History of Ahmedabad covers the information from 11th century when the city was known as Ashaval. Anhilwara (Patan) King Karandev I won the war against Bhil King Ashaval and set up new city Karnavati on the bank of the river Sabarmati.

Sultan Ahmed Shah named the city ‘Ahmedabad’ on his name, the city of Ahmed. One day he saw rabbit chasing the dog on the Sabarmati River Bank. He was impressed by the bravery of that rabbit and decided to make Ahmedabad as his capital.

Ahmedabad is also important part in Independence movement of India as Mahatma Gandhi built two ashrams here, the Kochrab Ashram near Paldi (1915) and the Satyagraha Ashram now known as Sabarmati Ashram in 1917 on Sabarmati River Bank. Both the Ashrams were centre of nationalist activities.
