The House of Shah - Book One, The Patriarch
The destinies of men and nations can hang on slender threads, on chance encounters. And so it is in the Patriarch, the story of an Indian youth of low social class, who is recruited as a Spy by an aristocratic English General, to be sent behind enemy lines. His task is complicated by the fact that he must not only spy, but also neutralize a Warrior King and a Bandit Chieftain, in order to ensure the General a victory in an upcoming battle.
The General goes on to become famous as the Duke of Wellington whilst the British Army goes on to conquer India. But at one crucial moment in time, this glorious future hung in the balance and depended on the actions of one lowly native youth. Years later, as he reminisces about his early life in India, Wellington acknowledges the Indian youth who saves his life during the greatest challenge he had ever faced in the Battle of Assaye, Waterloo being in comparison. The Patriarch is an epic historical tale, filled with intrigue and action adventure, worthy of a reader’s time. The plot skillfully includes the Dance of Shiva. In one critical scene within a great Durbar, the enemy King is delivered an ultimatum by a British emissary.
Rather than give a direct answer, the wily King chooses this dance as a medium to convey his decision, a medium he knew that only this youth could interpret. The King chose to convey War, not Peace. The story is worthy of the Silver screen, be it Hollywood, or Bollywood".
