Saputara Hill Station Gujarat India

SAPUTARA, situated in a compactly forest area in the Sahyadri Range in Gujarat. Again Saputara is the only hill station in the Dang district of South Gujarat State.

The Gujarat State is situated on the west coast of India and boasts of a 1,600 km long coastline. The Arabian Sea sweeps off the western and south western frontiers of the state. It is situated between 20o 1' and 24o 7' north latitudes and 68o 4' and 74o 4' east longitudes. Gujarat stretches from Kutch in the West to Daman in the South. In the East, lies the hilly region of the Aravallis, whereas lush green woods, hills, plains and rivers are found in the west. Rajasthan lies towards the northeast of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh to the east and Maharashtra to the southeast.

The place is rich in its bio-diversity and natural relics. It includes in itself many panoramic natural landscape views and rich heritage of its folklore and tradition of the native 'Dangi'. 


It has been developed as a planned hill resort with all necessary amenities such as hotels, parks, swimming pool, boat club, theatres and a museum to ensure an enjoyable holiday in the cool of the hills.

Saputara is an attraction point for youth. Many young groups visit saputara and taste the thrill and adventure on various popular sites of Saputara. Following are the stunning adventure options at Saputara. The Ropeway, Trekking & camping, Boating, Horse riding, Camel riding.      

The Sunrise Point, also known as the Valley View Point, offers a bird's eye view of Saputara and its environs. It is very famous amongst Gujarati People.

The Lake & Boating Club, right in the heart of the valley, is the extremely calm Saputara Lake. It is 70 feet deep and spreads in the vast valley surrounded by the hills. Row and paddle boats are available for hire. Several types of amusement facilities for children are available near the lake.

Saputara Tribal Museum is a small museum with a tribal theme, displaying the lifestyle, ornaments, musical instruments, agricultural implements, house objects of day-to-day use of native Dangis. It provides an insight into the tribes of Dang. Timings: 10.30am to 05.00pm. Entry fees: for students – Re 1, adults – Rs 2 and for foreigners Rs 50.


Tourist Places around Saputara Hill Station

 

The Rose Garden is a garden with different types of roses   which offers scenic places for tourists to laze in, while walking around Saputara.

The Honey Bees Centre is a place where honeybees are reared and pure honey is collected. It is just opposite to the garden. It also provides information on honey industry and honeybee rearing.

The Echo Point is situated just ahead of Rutumbhara Vishwavidhalaya. It provides fun and activities under one roof.

The Lake View Garden is maintained at the banks of lake in the centre of Saputara.

Sitavan – along with Anajani Kund – is among the landmarks of the days of Ramayan and Mahabharat.

The Pandav Gufas are believed to be the caves which Pandavas used during their vanavasa to offer prayers to Lord Shiva.

The Pampa Sarovar is believed to be the birthplace of Hanumandada which is 40 km away from Ahwa, the headquarters of Dang district in Gujarat.

The Forest nurseries are particularly along the Narmada River which flows 161 km (100 miles) through Gujarat State.

The Hatgad Fort is in the Nasik District which is just 8 km away from Saputara. The height of this fort is about 3600 feet and it lies near the Mulher village. On the top of the fort there are two reservoirs.

Saputara No Sap (Snake of Saputara), at the base of the lake near the stream, is a patio, where a snake sculpture is placed. Local Dangis worship this snake.

Ritambhara Vishwa Vidyapith is a social organization for Dangi tribal children.

The Governor’s Hill, along with Sunrise Point, Sunset Point and existing lake, are the first phase of the countrywide roadshow embarked upon by Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Limited (TCGL) to attract investment for the master plan of developing Saputara as a tourism hub this year (2010).

Religious Attractions these include Nageshwar Mahadev Temple, Jain Temple, Swaminarayan Temple & Bhramha Kumari Art Gallery.

The Botanical garden (49 kms. from Saputara) is a large 24-hectare garden with 1,400 varieties of plant from all over India. The amateur nature lover can marvel at different varieties of bamboo like the Chinese Bamboo, Golden Bamboo, and Beer Bottle Bamboo etc. and enjoy strolling along the beautiful walkways each lined with different species of tree.

The Gira waterfalls (49 kms. from Saputara) is located off the Saputara-Waghai road which emerges from the Kapri tributary. It is a breathtakingly beautiful view around monsoon. The seasonal (only after rains) falls are among the most picturesque sights in the district. Located about 3 km from Waghai town, the waterfall has a 30 meters natural drop into the Ambika river. It is open to public and accessible by jeeps on hire. It is an absolutely must-see from June to November.

The Mahal Forest (68 kms. from Saputara) is one of the dense forests in Gujarat and has rich wild life. Tourists require special permission from forest department to visit Mahal Forest, which is open for the tourist during specific time during the year. The main attractions of this region are Purna sanctuary and Girmal falls.

The Unnai Mata Temple & Hot Spring (68 kms. from Saputara) is located near Waghai. Visitors can bath in the hot spring attached to this famous temple which is said to be providing cure effect of chronic health illness.

Ambapada (48 kms. from the Saputara) is a typical Dangi traditional village located near the Gira Falls. It is surrounded on all sides by lush and tall bamboo. The village tribal is engaged in making of toys and lamps out of bamboo roots.

The Girmal Falls (85 kms. from Saputara) is easily the most marvelous sight during the monsoon, the Girmal Fall is a little off the Mahal Singana Road. The approach leads via tribal village to steep fall on the Gira River. The facing hill side is a rich with rare flora and is worth exploring by the more adventurous trekkers.

The Vansda National Park was originally a private forest of maharaja of Vansada. It is now a park which covers an area of 24 km². Despite its small size the park harbours tiger, leopard, pangolin, rusty-spotted cat, python, giant squirrel, four-horned antelope etc. Prior permission from the Chief Wildlife Warden, of Gandhinagar or DFO, Ahwa, is required before visiting the park.

The Purna Sanctuary, covering an area of 160 km², is a part of a dense moist deciduous forest in the Western Ghat of Gujarat. Situated at Mahal (60 kms.  north of Dangs), the sanctuary is crossed by Purna and Gira rivers. There are bamboo-lined pathways for trekkers. Prior permission is necessary for visiting.

The Saptashringi Devi Mandir (Vani) (50 kms. from Saputara) is that of one of the sisters of Goddess Kali. Sapta means seven and shring means pinnacle and therefore Saptashringi means the mountain having seven peaks. This temple is visited by devotees throughout the year, the rush period being the Dassera festival. Lacs of devotees visit the place during Navaratra.

Tithal, 130 km away in Valsad district, is a beautiful sandy beach with tall shady palms lining the entire beach. The seawater here is pure and placid, making summer the most pleasant time to visit. Tithal is 195 km from Mumbai, 66 km from Navsari, 108 km from Surat and 5 km from Valsad.
