Ahmed Shah’s Mosque – An Ancient Mosque in Ahmedabad

Ahmed Shah’s Mosque is a very famous and much revered religious place for the Muslim community based in Gujarat and is well-liked for its incredible architecture. Founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah, this prominent antique mosque dates back to 1414 AD. Interestingly, the Ahmedabad city was founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah himself, which is the foremost reason the mosque was named after the Sultan. It is believed that the place where the mosque was constructed was previously a site in which a temple is supposed to be constructed. The prayer hall or Mehrabs of Ahmed Shah’ Mosque is constructed using magnificent black and white marble. The Mosque has a special chamber, which is meant for the female devotees, and this chamber has been named as Zenana. Originally the mosque was a sacred place, which was intended only for the royal family but gradually the mosque welcomed all kinds of devotees.

The tombs of Ahmed Shah and his queens lay outside the gates towards the east of the Jama Masjid. These daintily built tombs surely mesmerise the sightseers. Both the outward structure as well as the inside view of the mosque fascinates the tourists, which is the principal reason Ahmed Shah’s mosque attracts innumerable visitors every year.
